Australia Day 2013 reception

The Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur recently hosted a lively reception to celebrate Australia Day, which falls on 26 January annually.

The High Commission was pleased to welcome Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yang Berhormat Senator A. Kohilan Pillay, and other invited guests. These included Malaysians from government, politics, the business world, the education sector, the arts community, the Malaysian armed forces, and the Royal Malaysian Police, as well as other fields. Members of the Australian community also attended.

The theme for this year’s celebration, Australia Unlimited, highlighted Australia’s social, cultural, political and economic diversity.

The reception was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and attended by more than 900 guests of the Australian High Commission.

The Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E. Mr Miles Kupa, remarked that Australia Day is special as it is the national day for all Australians. “We want to celebrate Australia Day with our Malaysian friends and other people in Malaysia that we work closely with. Australia has a lot of connections with Malaysia in areas such as defence, education, foreign policy, trade and investment, and police cooperation. We hope that our Malaysian counterparts will continue to work with us in those areas,” he said.

The Australia Day reception also served to showcase the best of Australia, with a wide variety of fine Australian produce and wine for guests to enjoy, including seafood, meat, cheeses, fruit and wine.

The Australian High Commission extends its thanks to sponsors for the Australia Day 2013 reception, including Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre; Leighton Contractors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; Roc Oil Company Limited; Blackmores (M) Sdn Bhd; BlueScope Steel (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; Monash University Sunway Campus; Meat & Livestock Australia; Southern Rock Seafood Sdn Bhd; AmBank Group; Victorian State Government of Australia and Bufori Motor Car Company (M) Sdn Bhd.
