The Australian High Commissioner is seeking a highly motivated person to fill the position of Butler at his Residence.

Duties
Maintain very high standard of housekeeping, service and support for activities and functions at the residence of the Australian High Commissioner.

Skills required
The successful candidate will have an ability to work well as part of a small team and good interpersonal and communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

The Butler will be required to anticipate requirements, problem-solve and be a self-starter who can operate with limited supervision.
Prior experience in hospitality and/or service industries is an advantage.

Remuneration package includes:
• Salary level will be determined subject to the successful candidate’s skills and experience. The salary range will be between RM2300 to RM2500 per month.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:     Butler

Report to:    Head of Mission (HOM)

Purpose:     To maintain very high standards of housekeeping and food and beverage service at the Official Residence in regard to all aspects of the representational and non-representational activities on the premises.

KEY TASKS

Representational – official functions:

• Reception of guests.
• Answering the telephone and taking messages.
In consultation with HOM and the cook, manage all aspects of representational functions for breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, teas, cocktails and other functions including setting the table/s, arranging clearing of furniture, serving of food and drinks and cleaning up of crockery and cutlery. Setting the table for luncheons and dinner parties.
In consultation with HOM and the cook, ensure floral arrangements are in place for both regular décor and colour coordinated representational functions.

General duties (downstairs only)

 Cleaning all areas downstairs including the guest toilets, terrace and bar area and vacuuming carpets and cleaning up stairwell to upper floor.
• Sweeping and mopping floors downstairs.
• Tidying, dusting and polishing furnishings in all the downstairs areas.
• Maintaining wine cellar in neat and clean order and in consultation with HOM and the cook maintain the inventory of alcohol stock.
• Cleaning and polishing the inside of sliding glass doors in the formal reception and dining areas downstairs.
• Cleaning of windows downstairs: inside and out.
• Cleaning all ceiling fans on the terrace.
• Upkeep of silver service and other cutlery, tea service, serving platters and decorative pieces as well as brass work on stairwell to upper floor.
• Assisting house guests as required including making and serving tea and coffee.
In consultation with the cook arrange payment of casual staff working at representational functions, including issuing receipts to casual staff.
• In consultation with the Cook, all maintenance, repairs and replacement needs are reported promptly to the office.
• Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to residents, and clearing table when diners have finished.
• After dinner clean up in the kitchen.

Supervision
• Supervision gardener, contractors and workmen.
• Supervision of inventory of household items.

Working Hours
• Monday through Saturday
• Sundays are off
• One house full-time staff member must be prepared for “on-call” at all times.
• After-hours representational functions as and when needed.

NOTE: Uniforms must be worn at all times during the working hours.
