Datuk Dr Philip Ting – Honorary Member of the Order of Australia
The Australian High Commission is proud to announce the investiture of Datuk Dr Philip Ting as an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia (AM), for his services as Australia’s Honorary Consul in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Datuk Dr Ting is Australia’s longest serving honorary consul, commencing in 1989 and working with eight different Australian High Commissioners.
Speaking at the investiture ceremony for Datuk Dr Ting, the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mr Miles Kupa, said, “It is my great pleasure to bestow on Datuk Dr Philip Ting an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his services as Australia’s Honorary Consul in Kuching, Sarawak. I am delighted to see Datuk Dr Ting’s hard work and distinguished contribution recognised through this prestigious award. His dedication in assisting Australians has been exemplary.”
Datuk Dr Ting has played a significant role in strengthening the relationship between Australia and Malaysia. In addition to his role as the Honorary Consul in Sarawak, Datuk Dr Ting has been the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Malaysia-Australia Foundation since 1999 and is Vice-Patron of the Sarawak-Australian Graduates’ Association.
Datuk Dr Ting has also been a very active supporter of Swinburne University’s campus in Sarawak since its opening in 2000, including as a member of the governing board. He has been instrumental in Swinburne’s development and has donated funds to support the library and medical research.
As well as his significant contribution in these areas, Datuk Dr Ting has done much to encourage greater trade and investment between Australia and Malaysia.
