Australia Day 2015 – Celebrating 60 years of Australia in Malaysia

The 60th anniversary of Australia’s diplomatic presence in Malaysia was celebrated in style at the annual Australia Day Reception, hosted by the Australian High Commission on 27 January. The important milestone highlights the long-standing connections between our two nations.

The guest of honour was Minister of Human Resources, Dato’ Sri Richard Riot anak Jaem, representing the Malaysian Government. The event hosted close to 1,000 distinguished guests from government and Malaysian society.

Australian High Commissioner, Mr Rod Smith PSM, said the event was a fitting way to launch commemorations for the 60th anniversary.

“Australia Day is a great opportunity to come together with Malaysian friends to reflect on the history of our relationship and celebrate the strong links between our governments and people across politics, defence, education, business, trade, the arts and tourism,” he said.

The finest Australian produce was served at the event, including a sumptuous seafood feast, succulent Australian beef and lamb, and an array of sweets including Australia’s famous lamington cakes. Select produce was provided by Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), Southern Rock Seafood, Euro-Atlantic Sdn Bhd, Pikzern Marketing Sdn Bhd, Alpine Trout Farm, Jade Tiger and Lucky Frozen Sdn Bhd.

Other generous sponsors were Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, AmBank Group, Blackmores Malaysia, Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia, Lend Lease Projects (M) Sdn Bhd, Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, QBE Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd, Malaysia Airlines, Victorian State Government of Australia, NS BlueScope Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care, Telstra Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Cantuman, and Orange.
