Students from UiTM Terengganu visit the Australian High Commission

The Australian High Commission recently hosted a group of 53 students and one lecturer from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Terengganu, who were here on a field trip as part of their academic requirement.

The final-year students of Diploma in Public Administration organised the trip and chose the Australian High Commission due to the strong diplomatic relations between Australia and Malaysia. The trip was linked to one of their projects under the subject “Current Affairs of South East Asia”.

A half-day program comprising briefings and presentations by the staff of the Australian High Commission enabled the students to find out more about the work carried out by a diplomatic mission in a foreign country. Staff from various departments within the High Commission – Political and Economic, Education, Consular, Immigration and Visa, Customs and Border Protection, Defence, and the Australian Trade Commission – spoke to the students and answered their questions.

Mr Ridwaan Jadwat, Counsellor and Head of the Political and Economic Section, said he was pleased that the students had gained a better appreciation of the depth and breadth of the work of the High Commission, and that the briefing session had enhanced their knowledge about Australia and the rich diversity of its people.

The lecturer accompanying the students, Mr Jazimin Zakaria, said the students were able to gain something more than just learning in the normal classroom setting.

The half-day’s program ended with a quiz and morning tea, which enabled the students to meet and interact with some of the High Commission’s staff.
